LCP Defense Committee Letter to Membership May 26, 2019

Attached (here) is a copy of the letter submitted to the County of Monterey on behalf of the Big Sur LCP Defense Committee on the proposed regulations for vacation rental uses which allow both homestays and limited short-term rentals in the Big Sur Area.

The attached letter has been prepared by the legal firm Shute, Mihaly Weinberger LLP on behalf of the Big Sur LCP Defense Committee. At several key stages of the STR process, the Defense Committee Steering Committee has concluded that it needed professional assistance in representing its position and that of the Committee membership that all forms of STR’s violate the Big Sur LCP.

To date, through the generosity and support of several members of our community, we have expended approximately $25,000. As this process moves forward we are anticipating the need for additional fundraising to support our efforts. We will be in touch with regard to financial requirements in the near future.

The next key date is expected to be the Planning Commission meeting of June 26, 2019. We hope that you will consider attending and/or expressing your support for the continued preservation of Big Sur through our LCP.
